Well, we are into the senior season now, and we are really having fun!....we have gone back to our outdoor studio at Cedar Valley, and we are getting some great photos!...but what is nice is that we can also use last year's spots, which give our studio even more versatility!
I want to address something that has been brought up to me, and that are seniors that are using "friends" and "relatives" to shoot their senior photos.....I know that the economy is hard right now.....but please remember that with photography.....you definitely get what you pay for.....although many of these people are good on the amateur level.....they sometimes can not give you what we professionals can, and that is full retouching capabilities.....Photoshop experience.....many different things that we can do with Photoshop......but more importantly, is the lab that we use for good quality printing....that LASTS!.......We are happy to use, and have used for over 20 years, American Color Imaging out of Cedar Falls.....they are a quality lab, and they have very quick turnaround on our orders........this is something that alot of amateurs can not give you......and let's just be honest.....would you trust your surgery to a "part time" surgeon??.....NO!!....so why trust one of the most important things of your life....(you are only going to graduate from high school one time!)......so why trust this to a "part time" photographer??......think about that.......every year we end up photographing seniors that went elsewhere, and were disappointed in the results......when you get down to it.....if you compare our prices....and our results......we are not that much more expensive than what some of these amateurs are charging you....but you are getting soooo much more!
I also want to address something else that was brought to my attention.....studios that are charging extremely high session fees....and you get a portion of that fee as a "credit" towards your photos.....well.....the only question I have for that is this...."Do you like spending that much on portraits.....that you haven't even seen yet??"........would you buy a car without seeing it or test driving it??......I don't think so......so shop smart.....see what you are spending your money on....and don't be "forced" into spending money you don't have to....especially when you haven't even seen the photos yet......
The third thing brought to my attention by some of my own clients....are studios that are saying that they have a "minimum order" that must be placed for them to photograph your senior......most of them being in the $500.00 range.....am I the only one that finds this a little absurd?.......that's like going to the car dealership, wanting to buy a car....and them telling you the only one that you are allowed to buy is the Cadillac Escalade!!........simply amazing!!............or.......going to the grocery store to buy a loaf of bread or gallon of milk...and being told you can't....because they have a $50.00 minimum you must spend!!.......folks......YOU are the people that make it possible for us to be in business.....why should we start being so pompous to tell you that if you don't spend "X" amount of dollars at our studio....then we don't want you as customers!??.......Our studio has low session fees.....ABSOLUTELY NO MINIMUM ORDERS.....and we put out a very high quality product at a fair price....call and compare our prices to the others....you will find that out for yourself.......(ok...I'll get down off the soapbox now....)
We are still running our 1/2 off session fees for the month of August......and once school starts....not that we condone you missing school.....we have Highland Photography's Breakfast Club.....which means on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday...if you book any of the morning appointment slots.....it is also 1/2 price session fees!!.......so that means our session fees are now:
Indoor only (2 outfits) $30.00
Indoor/Outdoor (3 outfits) $47.50
Indoor/Outdoor (5 outfits) $57.50
And our packages start as little as $99.00!!.......

Wow!!....another year has gone by, and here we now are ready to start photographing our Class of 2010!!.....
We are now going to go back and start photographing our outdoor sessions at beautiful Cedar Valley, down by the river. It's a short 6 mile drive west of Tipton and it's well worth the short drive to get there.

Just a reminder, ALL of our session fees for the months of June, July and August are HALF PRICE!!......times are filling up VERY quickly, so call NOW to reserve your time to make sure you get the date and time that you want. The more we get into summer, the hotter it will be getting during the day, so the 9:00am appointments are the best for both heat, and lighting, and they are always the first to go.....so CALL NOW to make sure you get the one you want!

ZA-GA-ZIG SHRINE CLOWNS

This past week, I had the great honor of traveling over to Des Moines to the Shrine Temple over there and photograph many of the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Clowns. This is a wonderful and amazing group of men, not only because many years ago, I was one of them (Homer, The Baseball Clown)....but just with the things that they do, the money they raise, the children that they help, the smiles that they bring and all the joy that they spread is endless.
It was great seeing some of the "oldies" from my past like Skeeter, Lil' Jiggs, Wuzzles, Buster, Soapie, and others that I am sure I have missed.....but also to see so many of the new clowns! I am absolutely amazed at some of the costumes that these guys have come up with!....very innovative to say the least!....
Anyway, the Shrine Circus will be coming up on May 1st, 2nd and 3rd.....you don't want to miss it....and if my schedule permits....you might even see an OLD clown there in the grease and rags for one more good time!

Hello everyone!....
Well....we have done it!!....our new website is now launched as of today!....you can reach it at:

We are very excited with the new website.....it is much "flashier" than our old one....and although we hate to see that one go.....the new site will allow us to let clients view their portraits online if they wish....and they also can purchase right on our website if they wish through our online shopping cart!......
Also we have several new galleries which include slide shows and music!.....and much nicer presentation than the old site.....

Half Price Session Fees For Family Sessions!

When was the last time you had your family's portrait done?
I would like to announce that we are slashing our session fees for family groups in half for the months of January, February and March!.....that's right!...instead of our normal session fee of $65.00 for family groups, we are cutting them in half to be only $32.50!....This includes your main family group and two breakdowns of that group, such as the parents alone and the kids alone. Or, if you are a multi-family group, it means the large group and two breakdowns, such as Grandma and Grandpa with all the grandkids and the grandkids alone, or the original family.....each additional family group beyond the first three groups can be photographed for just $10.00 each......
Family photos seems to be on everyone's "To Do" list...but we never ever seem to get around to getting them taken......the last church directory......someone's wedding.......time flies between the time of having them taken. Now that the holidays are over and things have settled down is the perfect time to have your family's portrait taken!....
This price cut is for "in studio" sessions only, or you can choose to have me come to your home or on location for another fee.
